We organize and coordinate scientific outreach conferences and symposia.
We teach courses focused on integrating biologists into the workforce, environmental education, and specialization courses.
The specialization courses cover different fields, from sampling design and multivariate statistics to the development of environmental monitoring plans for various types of impacts on the marine environment (Ports, outfalls, desalination plants, aquaculture concessions, etc.). The main objective is to provide students with a series of guidelines for seeking environmental solutions that they will encounter throughout their professional lives, which constitute an indispensable complement to the knowledge acquired during their university studies.
Outreach
In addition to conferences, courses, etc., at CIMA we take scientific and environmental outreach very seriously. A portion of our projects are carried out with public funds, and we want citizens to know what we do in those projects, why they are important to us and the administration, and why they are important to society in general.
We are very clear that what is not understood is not valued or cared for. In this sense, we want to contribute our grain of sand so that society better understands the environment in which it lives, its dynamics, dangers, etc.
To this end, we have several projects in mind. Among them, we want to highlight “Things We Do at CIMA”. “Things We Do at CIMA”.
“Things We Do at CIMA”
“Things We Do at CIMA” “Things We Do at CIMA” is a scientific outreach project consisting of a series of short videos that will help us explain what we do and how we do it at the company. All of this aims to bring citizens closer to the world of marine biology and oceanography research.
This project was presented in March 2018 in Seville at the seventh edition of one of the most prestigious national congresses on scientific outreach on the internet: Ciencia en Redes. In October 2018, it was presented internationally at the sixth edition of the SciComPT Network Congress | 2018 (Science and Technology Communication Network of Portugal), whose central theme was “Ciência: Aberta à Sociedade. Participação e Inclusão em Comunicação de Ciência” (Science: Open to Society. Participation and Inclusion in Science Communication). Finally, two years into the project, “Things We Do at CIMA” was presented at the VII Congress on Social Communication of Science, held in Burgos, to explain the project’s foundations, its progress over the years, and the results we have obtained.
